I recommend all his books - most of which you'll have to find used by now. I have been looking into getting a few chickens, this book is a nice guide. The book was a ray of hope in an otherwise scary situation. I've always thought of the Cockroach as creepy, not dangerous. And thank goodness for that! Carrie Hudson makes the characters jump from the page and not on each other every chapter. Its been incredibly difficult, and isolating, and depressing, and boring, and sad sometimes, and there are days when I feel so overwhelmed with the thought that I have ruined my life and things will never get better. The chapters on bug reproduction are, um, disturbing and graphic. I read this book when it first came out, and had, over the years, merged it in my head with "Stone Butch Blues" by Leslie Feinberg. I don't like the dogma, I don't feel a sense of community when I'm there, and while they may work for a lot of people, I knew they didn't work for me in a significant way.
