It is because it's exiting and fun and kind of sad. John Keene graphically documents the evil of slavery, not only the institution per se, but further in the way the institution generates cascading evil in individual acts. It is nice to see a vast collection of Britten Cycles available for the first time. At some point words have to retain some meaning and Bennett is stretching the meaning of "Christian" beyond the breaking point.The author writes well and has a friendly style with plenty of personal anecdotes and touches of humor.
