Since the second edition of this book (1977), Model Theory has changed radically, and is now concerned with fields such as classification (or stability) theory, nonstandard analysis, model-theoretic algebra, recursive model theory, abstract model theory, and model theories for a host of nonfirst order logics. Model theoretic methods have also had a major impact on set theory, recursion theory, and proof theory. This new edition has been updated to take account of these changes, while preserving its usefulness as a first textbook in model theory. Whole new sections have been added, as well as new exercises and references. A number of updates, improvements and corrections have been made to the main text.I read this book when it first came out, and had, over the years, merged it in my head with "Stone Butch Blues" by Leslie Feinberg. I use it second only to Scott Cunningham's works in the area of aromatherapy. This book is great - it covers ALL kinds of things, not just herbs. Time travel is a difficult device to use in storytelling. The former book is more concise, and a fast read. My only problem with this title is that since he did not begin as a professional writer, Thorburn's prose can be just a bit clunky at times in this first of his books, "Drunks, Drugs, and Debits," which slowed me down in my reading I did not have this problem when I was reading "How to Spot Hidden Alcoholics." I think this author's work is well worth our attention, and I intend to read more from him. The people I was surrounding myself with were not good people and I knew it. I learned a lot. I wanted to find out more, so I bought Doug Thorburn's first book, "Drunks, Drugs and Debits." I especially like what the author had to say about not being a professional, nor an alcoholic, because there is so much he would have had to unlearn if he were, in order to write his books. Thereafter he becomes principal of his own highly successful preparatory school. A classic!. For instance, in 1978 Shelah wrote a famous book that simultaWoleńskiIf someone will ask you about the most successful textbook in logical (classical) model theory, your answer may be only one: that is C.C. Second revised and enlarged edition appeared in 1977. Chang and H.J. J. Keisler, Model Theory. This book was published for the first time in 1973. Now we welcome the third edition of this classic book in classical model theory The novelties of the third edition are these: a section on recursively saturated models, a section on Lindström's characterization of first order logic, a more extensive treatment of model-completeness and a section on nonstandard universes.Studia Logica
